5 Reasons to Buy a Home in Leander

Buying a Home - Kathy Mayer - Feb 13, 2018

If you’re looking for a home in the Austin-area, but avoiding the traffic and chaos of the city itself, then look no further than Leander. This city is the fastest growing community in the area, is considered the 8th safest city in Texas, and is only 20 minutes from Austin. Never heard of Leander? Trust us. It’s more than just a dot on the map; it’s gaining traction, and right now is the best time to buy a home there.

Still not convinced? Here are five reasons you need to buy a home in Leander:

  1. Small town, but not too small

When you think about a small town, you may think there’s only one grocery store, drug store, a town square, and you have to commute to the closest city for some excitement. Leander is not the case; in fact, it’s a progressive suburb that has exploded in the last five years in both residential and commercial development. It’s also close to some of the biggest attractions in Texas Hill Country such as Lake Travis and Inner Space Caverns. You can also travel down the road to the Cedar Park Center and see local sports teams, Cirque de Soleil and major musical acts. Leander continues to see expansion; read Community Impact to see what’s headed there next.

  1. Affordable compared to Austin

The 2017 end of year housing statistics noted Leander as having a median price of $275,000 compared to the City of Austin at $362,000. Housing inventory rose from 1.8 to 2.1, which is not surprising considering there are over 20 builders developing new homes in the area. This means you can find and buy a new home in Leander easier than in Austin! But most importantly, you have more opportunity to get more land for your money in Leander. Currently, a five-bedroom home is roughly the same as a small condo in Downtown Austin.

  1. A heartbeat away from the State Capitol

New roads built around the area help lighten the commute from Leander into Austin, and with the new toll roads in and out of town, a commute to North Austin’s major tech employers and The Domain shopping center takes as few as 20 minutes. Leander is also the last stop on Capital Metro’s light rail service. Leave your car behind and hop on for a ride straight to Downtown Austin.

  1. Great education

Finding a good school is one of the top criteria for families looking for a new home. Leander Independent School District (LISD) has become the largest school district in Williamson County and the fastest growing school district in Texas. LISD has also earned recognized honors from multiple outlets for academic excellence. U.S. News and World Report ranked three Leander high schools with gold and silver medals in education. Niche.com also ranked LISD as #3 of 22 best school district in the Austin Area and #17 of 285 best school district in Texas

  1. Enjoy the outdoors

Austin is known for its rich outdoor activities in a wonderful hill country setting, and the good news is you don’t have to live in the city to experience them. Leander has its fair share of scenery and welcoming outdoor activities with seven area parks. Residents can choose from a disc golf course, skate park, running in the greenbelt, swimming in a Junior-Olympic sized pool, or boating on Devine Lake. Moving during the summer with the family? Take a 15min drive to the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park and ride the miniature train or play around on the Quarry Splash Pad

Buy a Home in Leander: The place to call home

If you’re looking for a place with small town charm and big city thinking, consider Leander your next place to call home. This thriving city has something for everyone; it’s a good place to start a new life, raise a family, and retire. And if you ever forget (or miss) the hustle and bustle, remember it’s a short commute away from Austin.

When you’re ready to explore Leander further, take your first home tour at Travisso, a premier community of new homes, surrounded by 350 acres of open Hill Country. It’s tucked away from it all, yet offers easy accessibility to retail and restaurants in the area, and major highways leading in and out of town for the short commute to work or weekend shopping trips.
