Tailgating 101: A Guide to Attending Texas Football Games

Football is back! It’s been a long time since we’ve attended any Texas football games. Here’s your tailgate guide from BEVO XV himself!

Football season has returned! But for many, it’s been over a year since they have tossed on their team gear and hit the tailgates. In Central Texas, this means it’s time to Hook ‘em Horns. What better way to kick off the season than with BEVO at Texas football games.

The current mascot for the University of Texas, BEVO XV, residents in Williamson County at his owners, John and Betty Baker’s farm, called Sunrise Ranch. But fans can celebrate Texas football earlier at the university tailgate located on BEVO Boulevard.

Here’s what to remember before you go, to have the best tailgate possible.

Texas Tailgate Essentials

  • Fan Gear: You definitely can stroll up to a football game without any team apparel on. Whether you are rocking burnt orange or white, just don’t forget your longhorn logo when you leave home! Need gear? Shop the Texas Team Shop and University Co-op.
  • Koozie: It is hot in Austin when football season starts. You don’t want your drink to warm up before you even crack it open.
  • Sun Protection: Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreens are highly recommended for any time you spend out in the sun. When walking around campus in downtown Austin, sunshine reflects off all the buildings. Prevent sunburns and stay cool if you can with hats and sun protection.
  • Team Spirit: One of the most essential items. Get ready to Hook ‘em Horns! And throw up your best ‘hand horns’ or ‘rock on’ sign as you attend Texas football games.

BEVO Boulevard & Other Texas Tailgate Locations

BEVO Blvd. is the official University of Texas tailgate for Longhorn fans. It’s a free tailgate-meets-State Fair adventure for families. You can expect to greet BEVO XV when the mascot and team arrive for the game during the parade, tons of happy hour food and drink deals at local food trucks, games, Ferris wheel and carnival rides, and live music played at Longhorn City Limits stage.

Other tailgates include the Texas Exes tailgate for members only and the Scholz Garten tailgate, where you can get a pre-game pint, Wienerschnitzel, and listen to live music at the Beir Garten’s Texas Tailgarten.
