With festivals popping up all over the area for May here’s our top picks worth checking out this month. Mark your calendar today for these area family-friendly festivals that are 100% guaranteed to provide hours of close-to-home fun. From Leander to Cedar Park to Lago Vista, Austin, and Fredericksburg there are plenty of festivals to keep everyone happy and busy all month long.

A 50s retro party and juried art

Fourth Annual Travisso Fest, May 4. Get your family and friends together and b-bop over to Travisso Fest for a retro 50s rockin’ good time. This year’s event takes places from 2-6 p.m. at Travisso’s amenity center, the Palazzo, 2437 Travisso Parkway. Great food, live music, and family fun for everyone! Dance your socks off to Danny B. Harvey & the Devil’s Daughters Band. Expect a whole lot of country, blues, and rock and roll during their Travisso Fest performance. And, as Texas’ number one party band, SouthTown plays a mix of pop/funk radio smash hits made popular by artists like Maroon 5, Prince, and much more. A slew of classic jams, too! Also, kid activities, food, a ton of fun and games, rides and attractions, a petting zoo, vintage cars, craft beer, root beer floats, giveaways, model home tours, and more. Free.

Spring Pecan Street Festival, May 4 and 5. Now, in its 42nd year, this downtown Austin festival celebrates the city in a big way. With its historic sixth street location, the Pecan Street Festival pays homage to the city’s artistic flair with a dose of weirdness. It takes place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The juried fest features both local and national artists offering original works of art in a variety of mediums like wood, glass, leather, acrylics and charcoal, to name a few. And, live music and culinary eats and treats from some of Austin’s most celebrated food trucks. Plenty of activities for the kids too including face painting, interactive workshops, street magicians and more. Free.

Boats, eats, arts and jazz

Lago Fest, May 11. Set in Bar K Park adjacent to the shores of beautiful Lake Travis, Lago Fest’s picture perfect location makes it easy to linger all day long. This family-friendly event kicks off at noon and runs until 9 p.m. Arts and crafts, beverages for all ages, and kids’ activities galore. Tasty food truck options from some of the area’s local favs like Burro Cheese Kitchen, Evil Wiener, and Kebabalicious. With live music all day long there’s never a dull moment at Lago Fest. The music begins at 1 p.m. It ends with a bang when musical headliner Ray Wylie Hubbard takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Free.

Jazz & Art on Main, May 10-11. This Cedar Park free festival celebrates the arts with live jazz music, food vendors, and arts and crafts. Paintings, mixed media, sculptures, woodwork, artisan glass, and handmade items for sale. The event takes place on Friday, May 10 from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cedar Park Recreation Center, 1435 Main Street. Free.

Down-home fun and Cajun cooking

Leander Old Town Street Festival, May 18. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and goes all day during this this annual food, wine and street festival that celebrates the city of Leander. It takes place at 100 N. Brushy Street. Old Town 5K, arts and crafts, artisan food trucks, kids fun zone, and more. Musician Doug Stone takes center stage at 6:30 p.m. Then, LC Rocks at 8:30 p.m. Free.

Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival, May 24-26. Texas-sized fun is on tap in the town of Fredericksburg during the Jaycees annual crawfish festival fundraiser. Down-home Cajun food, arts and crafts, a carnival, and plenty of crawfish. Live music all three days too. This Memorial Day weekend festival runs from 6-12 p.m. on Friday, Saturday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Proceeds from the festival benefit the mission and programs supported by the Jaycees. Adult admission is $12 on Friday, $15 Saturday and $10 Sunday. Admissions is $5 for kids ages 6-12; those under 6 are free.
