8 October Events for your To-do List

It you haven’t snagged a ticket to this year’s Austin City Limits Music festival, no worries. This is Austin. And, since it is the Live Music Capital of the World, from Austin’s downtown to the outlying areas live music is everywhere. With cooler fall weather on tap so are a plethora of October events to entertain the entire family. There’s literally hundreds of area events with music, fun, crafts, and food to help you fill up your social calendar. Better yet, you don’t even have to go into downtown to discover and explore these great family-friendly festivities.

So, this month savor all fall has to offer because now’s the perfect time to take a deep breath and enjoy the weather. Get out, get going, and discover these great October events. With most of them just a short drive from Travisso, you’ll want to make sure to attend them all. Here’s our local take on some of the best-of-the-best October events for you to discover this fall.

Not to miss October events close to home 

Join the Leander Independent School District’s Education Excellence Foundation for this year’s LEEF MUDstacle and Family Adventure Run. This mom-approved annual event takes place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Vista Ridge High School. Have a blast running in the mud for a great cause. The combination mud run and obstacle course challenges both runners and walkers. The event is open to the public. Participate on a team or as an individual. Proceeds from the event support innovative grants, college and career readiness programs and provides free books to LISD students, and more. Registration is now open.

Kids can trick-or-treat for prizes and sweet surprises during Halloween at the Y from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Twin Lakes YMCA of Greater Williamson County. Bring the whole family out for an evening of fun! Games, bounce houses, karaoke, slime crafts, cupcake decorating, giveaways and much more. The event is free and open to the public.

The city of Leander’s Old Town Summer Night and Concert Series holds its last concert of the year from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, 30. Music, a farmer’s market, children’s activities, food and the Leander Car Show. The City of Leander and the Leander Chamber of Commerce hosts this free family-friendly event.

You can bring your lawn chair, but you won’t sit long when party-funk show band Dysfunkshun Junkshun takes the stage. This Austin hometown favorite plays their unique mix of R&B music from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 during Cedar Park’s Concert in the Park series. They also play top 40 favorites, 70s Funk, Motown, and classic rock, too. The event is free.

And if you haven’t already heard, the Parade of Homes is happening at Travisso, Oct 19 – Nov 4. Tour four amazing luxury homes and get inspired hearing and seeing the newest trends in construction, building design, interior decor. See a hidden room, a doggie hotel, and a poolscape 25ft off the ground. And if that’s not enough to get you excited, rumor has it, Clint Harper from HGTV’s Fixer Upper and LeeAnne Locken of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Dallas will be stopping by! Not to miss October events in the Texas Hill Country 

Everyone’s German in the Texas Hill Country town of Fredericksburg. Even if you’re not, you’ll enjoy their tribute to the homeland the weekend of Oct. 5 to 7 during the town’s traditional Oktoberfest. During the three-day festival local organizations and businesses dish up authentic German food such as bratwurst, sauerkraut, schnitzel burgers, pretzels, potato pancakes, and more. Have a sweet tooth? Don’t miss the delicious desserts such as apple strudel, German chocolate brownies and homemade ice cream. Or, make your way to the Strassen Zelt Biergarten. Other highlights include non-stop musical entertainment the Hauptstrasse Chicken Dance, the OkTubaFest, and the 42 Tournament. A children’s area and local artisans selling one-of-a-kinds round out this fun-filled weekend.

Spend the day in the Texas Hill Country during the 17th Annual Marble Falls Main Street Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 6.  9. Join other car enthusiasts on Main Street for friendly conversation, camaraderie and the opportunity to do a little “shop” talk. From corvettes to model T’s to the classics to hot rods and even jalopies, this is one car show that has it all. Free.

Songwriting takes center stage during the 5th Annual Dripping Springs Songwriters Festival. The three-day event runs from Oct. 19-Oct. 21 in the town’s historic downtown area. This live music festival in the Texas Hill Country offers over 30 shows per day and showcase the talents of amazing singers and songwriters from across the country. The small venues allow for a close up and personal atmosphere. Hear their stories, listen to their heart-felt music, and learn why they write the songs they sing. The event is free.
