Local Fitness Activities to Keep You Fit and Healthy

Get out and get moving. With the promise of cooler temperatures on the horizon, the great outdoors beckons. And, with it comes a long list of fitness activities in the Austin metro area that will keep you and your family healthy and fit. Whether you like to run, bike, exercise, walk, or just take a deep breath of fresh air, the Austin metro area has you covered. From downtown Austin to Leander to Cedar Park, Round Rock, and beyond, fitness is taking center stage this fall. So, to save you a little time we did some research. And, guess what? We found some great events and programs to help keep you active, fit, and healthy. Check them out below.

Stay fit and take a hike at Travisso

Take a hike, enjoy the scenery and a few parks along the way in the master-planned community of Travisso. This great community trail offers over 10 miles of paved planned trails perfect for hiking, biking and running. Residents of Travisso treasure its close proximity to the community’s award-winning clubhouse, The Palazzo, where fitness is on the agenda daily. Or, another option is the Brushy Creek Regional Trail. It’s just a 10 minute drive from Travisso. The entire trail encompasses 10.4 miles. And, with six parks along the way recreational opportunities abound. In addition to walking, running and biking you can also swim, fish, kayak and have a picnic. Or, stop to play a game of bocce ball. A heads up here. For those with kids stop at Champion Park along the way. They’ll enjoy digging for fossils in the sand and climbing dinosaur bone playscapes.

Fitness events for the entire family

What could be more fun than exercising while cuddling a baby goat? GOGA Goat Yoga is offering four one-hour classes at their Hill Country Galleria location on Saturday, Sept. 29 beginning at 9 a.m. Kids are welcome. Check their website for class times and requirements. The class fee is $30.

Lace up your running shoes and make fitness a family event at the 23rd annual Cedar Park 5 Miler/5K and Kids 1K Fun Run. This fitness friendly event takes place at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA on Sunday, Nov. 11. The best part of this event is that participants can choose a race based on their level. There’s plenty of options so there’s no excuse. So, if you’re not quite up to running five miles you can always do three. All runners receive a finisher medal. Click here to register.

For those who want to run for free in a fun environment join New York based burger chain Shake Shack on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. The restaurant’s Shack Track and Field event is open to the public and happens year-round at the Domain. Participants choose both the distance (3-5 miles) and the pace. All are welcome. The event takes place rain or shine. Check out shakeshack.com/STF for a complete list of their upcoming monthly runs and special events.
